The Beginning

So when I first started this blog it was simply a way to let friends and family "watch" Emma grow up. But as time has gone on, I've realized that this is also something that Emma will be able to look back on (granted they still have the Internet and blogs in 2020) and read...like a virtual baby book. With that in mind, I think its only reasonable that she knows the story of life before Emma. So, over the next few posts I'll share stories like how Luke and I met, got engaged, got married, etc. Oh the memories!!

The Beginning....

After high school I had decided to do my first two years of college at a community college in Charlottesville, VA (yes, because of a guy I moved there) in order to save a little money. After two years in Charlottesville (and three boys later), I moved back to NOVA. I began working and started applying to surrounding colleges, hoping that the grades I had gotten during those two years were enough to get me a scholarship.
Through work I had met a series of guys; either too immature or just simply people I cared about as friends. Frustrated with the dating scene I approached my Mother for advice. Knowing that I was always "a little old" for my age, my Mom suggested "I leave the college boys behind..." And with that....her hunt began :)
She began calling me at school and work telling me about these "nice, young men" at her office. She even told me that she had cornered one at his cube (Luke) and run through a list of questions with him; Where do you live? Are you single? Married?, etc. Embarrassed and not really taking her seriously, I just laughed it off and thought she was being silly. After a while when she kept "mentioning" these guys I began to wonder...
A few months passed and I decided to meet my Mom at her office for lunch. As we sat eating, she began pointing out these mystery men to me. Believing that nothing would come out of it, I played along and commented on who I thought was cute and who was a definite not! Later, we made our rounds around the office floors saying "hello" to friends of my Mom's I hadn't seen since returning from school. While visiting with a co-worker, Alison, she happened to ask if I had come to the office looking for a job. Before I could answer my Mom said, "No, she's come here looking for a guy!" Alison quickly pointed to the cube across from her and whispered, "Luke!" My Mom shook her head in agreement and the next thing I know I'm being introduced to this Luke guy.
Talk about an awkward situation. After a quick introduction, Alison left us alone to talk. To this day I can't tell you what we talked about but I can say that I thought this Luke guy was cute :) After what felt like an hour of awkwardness, my Mom finally came over and said we had to leave. Thinking to myself that nothing would come out of this, I told Luke it was nice to meet him and that was that.
Unbeknownst to me, Alison later approached Luke and asked if he would like my number. Feeling a little awkward, Luke said sure (right, like what was he supposed to say!) and just like that my number was given out without me knowing.
I'm not quite sure what the "guy rule" is for how many days after you get a girls number that you're supposed to call but I can tell that I'm almost positive Luke waited the obligated time. But, in the end he finally did call and we spent HOURS on the phone that night. Again, I have no idea what we talked about...probably a little of everything.
I can't remember if we set up a "date" that night or if we talked a few more times....but that was the beginning!
