Sorry its been so long since I've posted. I had my surgery two weeks ago and just haven't had a chance to pick up the camera much.
My surgery went well and despite what the doctor told me, I've had very little pain during my recovery. Luckily Gammy made the trip down to NC just in case recovery didn't go well, which was a blessing considering the first two days after surgery I had one heck of a headache (I think it was all the sedation.) Overall we had a rather relaxed weekend; Gammy took E to the Children's Museum, we played around the house and even enjoyed a nice family dinner out at Macaroni Grill :) Unfortunately I didn't capture any of this on film... sorry!
Sadly, Gammy had to return home to VA for work and of course we went back to the daily grind. The rest of the week went on with minor incidences but Emma did seem to be coming down with yet another cold. Fed up with these colds turning into ear infections I finally got around to setting up a Chiropractor appt. for her. We started going last week while she was sick and I was pleasantly surprised when her cold seemed to be going away (although she did wake up Saturday morning with a cough). Saturday we decided to check out a local park in Greensboro and Emma seemed to have a blast!
Emma pointing out the geese to us :)
Trying to get the geese to come closer to her.
Getting ready to go down the "big kid" slide.
"No worries, Mom. I'm a pro!"
After such a good day, we were totally shocked when Sunday rolled around and we had a very sick little girl on our hands. Monday morning after a trip to the doctors we found out that E had bacterial pneumonia. No worries, after a few days of medicine we are on the mend!!
Its been a while since I've update on Em's developmental accomplishments. She has added a few more animal sounds to her repertoire; "ba-ba" for sheep, "tweet-tweet" for bird, monkey sounds, "meow" for kitty, "buzzzz" for bees, and she'll stick-out her tongue for a lizard.
Her vocab. is also huge at the moment. She can say; "no more", "blocks", "all done", "bath", "bed", "bird", "car", "horse", "shoes", "socks", "help" and I'm sure tons more that I can't think of at the moment. (For those of you wondering, yes...she still does use her sign language, often at the same time she speaks the word.) She is also trying to walk up the stairs by herself as well as put on her shoes.
We are definitely trying to encourage the new "big girl" activities. We've replaced her highchair with just a booster-seat, taken away sippy cups and replaced them with cups that just have a lid and started working on eating with a fork (she seems to really like to stab her food!)
I continue to use the potty chair with her as well but its often hard for me to remember to do so. We'll get there eventually!
On another note...Emma is no longer the youngest on the Mendenhall side of the family. Aunt Laura and Uncle Chris welcomed George Christopher on July 28th. Congratulations! We can't wait to meet the little guy :)
