"Noie Day" aka Snowy Day

We've had some record breaking weather here in good ole NC and while the natives are not exactly thrilled about it, I couldn't be happier!! While I DO NOT like driving in snow (or ice or anything other than sunshine) I was overjoyed when the weather forecasters here were predicting MAJOR snow. Granted I was a bit cautious in believing, I couldn't help but get a little excited and low and behold....they were right!! Reidsville, North Carolina got hit with eight, that's right, EIGHT inches of snow :) I felt like a kid on Christmas morning and couldn't wait to play with Emma in it.
While it wasn't the first snow experience for Emma (remember I posted last year on that), it was the first time for her to really enjoy it. She was definitely kind of hesitant at first but really had no problem warming up to the idea that snow = fun.
Here she is at the beginning of the snow storm trying to figure out why the ground is now white.

And here she is about five minutes later....

By mid-morning the next day the snow had stopped falling so we bundled up and headed outside...

First on our agenda..."painting" the snow. I thought this was a pretty cool idea but Emma wasn't all that interested, maybe when she's a little older.

Next up, building a snowman! You can't have 8 inches of snow and not build a snowman ;)

Not to shabby for two adults who haven't built a snowman in God knows how many years!

After our snowman adventure...time for sledding. Now keep in mind a few things before you watch this video:

1. We NEVER, in the four years that we have lived here, have gotten enough snow to go sledding.

2. Luke and I haven't been sledding in years.

3. Thus, we DON'T actually own a sled.

That being said....with parenthood comes the need to improvise...

And as you can see, a cookie sheet with a little PAM on the bottom works well as a sled. Feeling that this just wasn't enough, we loaded Emma into the car and headed over to our neighbors to use their sleds and the hill in their cow pasture. Yep, that's right, we took our child sledding in a cow pasture while about twenty cows watched us make fools out of ourselves from less than 50 feet away!

So all in all, we had a great time and were sad to see the snow start melting a few days later.
